Lego Marvel Superheroes 2: A Game Review

Kang

As always, with Lego games, Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 is very silly and includes countless puzzles. Once you throw superheroes into the Lego formula for video games, you end up with a game that's pretty darn awesome.

In the storyline of this game, Kang the Conqueror comes to take over Earth. Kang is a blue-faced, time-traveling, world conquering overlord and psychopath who usually goes up against the Avengers. To make it hard on the heroes in this game, he makes deals with a lot of Marvel's other villains to join with him in taking out the good guys.

Of course, the heroes can't let the villains win and can't let Kang take over the world. Playing as the heroes, that's where you come in! You can play as most every Marvel hero you've heard of or seen in the movies, including Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Spider-Man, Venom, and Daredevil.

Kang, being a time traveler, split New York City into different periods of time as part of his process of world domination. One part of New York is in Medieval England, while another is in ancient Egypt. Not all the sections are historical, though. A third split of reality is in a futuristic Hydra city. Since Hydra is a Nazi-like militaristic organization, surely that's a future that can be prevented! Maybe it's a parallel universe instead. Either way, this split version of New York becomes known as Kronopolis.

There's a lot for you to do in this game. You have to stop Kang, stop all the villains he's pulled in to help, and fix New York City. Whew!

What I like most about the game is all the puzzles. Well, being a comic book fan, I love the characters too, of course. Especially Spider-Man. The puzzles, though, are a lot of fun to figure out. There are slide puzzles, puzzles where you have to use only certain buttons, and puzzles in the game play itself where you have to find pieces laying around and figure out where they go in order to open doors or to get more characters.

I also like cheat codes. Shhh, don't tell anybody! For example, when you get to go into Gwenpool's room in the Avengers Mansion, go to her computer, and there's a place to type in cheat codes. There, you can get some really good extra characters by typing in 6 digit codes. These "cheat" codes can give you up to 23 different characters, so do a quick Google to see how to get them all.

Marvel Superheroes 2 was hard to beat but lots of fun the entire time I played it. Having beaten it, it's still fun to revisit, as now I can do whatever I want in free play mode. I definitely hope Marvel and Lego team again soon for a part 3.
