DC's Injustice 2: A Game Review

Updated: Jan 28, 2021

Injustice 2

Injustice 2 isn't only a DC game with a butt ton of characters, it's a fighting game reminiscent of Mortal Kombat. You pit DC Comics' famous characters against one another. With characters like Green Lantern, Batman, Superman, and Flash, the game is more like Mortal Kombat on steroids. It isn't just the good guys, though. You can also play, and fight, as villains like Joker, Atrocitus, Darkseid, or Gorilla Grodd. The possibilities are endless!

Styled after the classic fighting games, you can go up against a friend or a computer-played opponent. You can punch, kick, and do special moves that truly look awesome. Since many of the players have powers, the special moves are extra cool.

While the fighting aspect of the game is what drew me in, Injustice 2 also has a story mode. In the plot of the game, Joker has somehow mind-controlled Superman and forces him to kill Lois Lane. Of course, once he's free of his brainwashing, Lois' death drives Superman insane. Unlike the boy scout we're all used to, he now wants every villain and crook to die!

Other heroes, naturally, do not agree with Superman's new stance on villains which creates kind of a Civil War situation. Batman strongly disagrees with his old friend, and other heroes begin siding with either Batman or Superman. From what I've played of story mode, you seem to play on Batman's side only.

Whether arena-style fighting or fighting in story mode, the fighting itself is really cool. Some of the more amazing moves that even have cinematic cut scenes involved require certain patterns of buttons. If you open the game's menu, it shows you how to do the moves. For example, crouch, crouch and the X button could make something explode, melt, or literally send you to another dimension.

Fighting style games have always been some of my favorites. Also, I love comic books and most of DC's characters. So, with those two concepts combined, I think games can't get much better than this!
