The other day, I watched the Great Mouse Detective with my boys. My son, Eli, said "it said 'the end' like it was a book" as the movie was going off and the credits started rolling. I said, "sometimes movies say that too. Especially movies based on books like this one." Excited that we may have found a new chapter book to delve into, he said, "it's based on a book?" I told him, "yep, called Sherlock Holmes." Now, I was unaware of the children's book series called "Basil of Baker Street" at that moment. However, Basil IS based on Sherlock, so through the transitive property of geometry, this Disney movie is based on Sherlock. But, since I was unaware of that series, I got the next bit wrong. Eli asked, "is he still a mouse in the books?" I told him, "no, he's a person." Astounded, as if those poor Sherlock books would never make it to the big time unless he was a mouse, Eli said, "well, good luck with THAT!"
