I’ve decided to build the boys a treehouse. I’m not sure if the end result will be quite what I see in my head, but as long as it’s done by their birthday and isn’t condemned, I’ll be happy. Behind my backyard, there are 5…I want to say “Oak trees” …in something like a circle. Planning the construction involved quite a bit of 16 ft long wood, deck boards and 2x10s for floor joists. We brought this home in a truck with a 6 foot bed! It constantly seemed like it was going to bounce out, even though we were driving VERY slowly. People honked, I got the middle finger wave…tons of fun. I had cement bags at the top of the wood helping to hold it down but finally decided to get in the back of the truck and ride on top of it all. With Joanna driving, I didn’t expect I could necessarily hold everything down, but at least I could see it better and be an early warning system if the wood starting sliding out. Yes, this plan felt like it could end with me being in this year’s Darwin Awards. Each bump, the wood would bounce and I’d bounce with it. I was envisioning Lethal Weapon or Die Hard, one of the scenes where they slid out of the back of a truck and continued fighting while sliding on the pavement with only plastic or something under them. Somehow, I felt my action hero status wasn’t on par with Mel or Bruce and my sliding out of the back wouldn’t go as well…
We did get everything home…safely, but the normal 25 minute drive took about an hour and a half.
