World Culture Tour: Thailand part 3 - Muay Thai

For our final stop in Thailand, we decided to try out Muay Thai, Thailand's version of martial arts.

Known as a national sport in Thailand, Muay Thai got its start in 1767 when Nai Khanomtom was captured in battle against the Burmese during the Burmese-Siam War. He was well known for his fighting skills, so the Burmese gave him the chance to fight for his freedom. After defeating 10 Burmese fighters in a row, he was given his freedom and returned to Siam (Thailand) as a hero. That notoriety led to his fighting style becoming the national fighting style of Thailand.

For our attempts at Muay Thai, we followed a video tutorial from Arashi Do North Edmonton.
