With many of the countries we “visit” during our world culture tour, we order a snack box from that area. For our Russia stop, we ordered the “Taste of Eastern Europe” box from WorldWideTreats. This box typically contains items from Russia, Ukraine, and other countries that used to be part of the USSR. So, any treat that didn’t directly come from Russia gave me an opportunity to explain what the map looked like when I was a kid!
Most of the things in the treat box were really good. Some were odd. Some…not so good.
I’m sure it’s all in what you grew up with and developed a taste for. Hugh Jackman was on Jimmy Fallon talking about how much he loves Vegemite which, to me, was disgusting. So, I’m sure the wonderful treats that we didn’t much care for are beloved by someone from the old Soviet Block.
Since there were some we didn’t like, though, it really gave the entire box a “Russian roulette” feel. Appropriate for the locale, right?
The WorldWideTreats boxes vary from order to order, but our box included the list below. Now, I’m typing with an English keyboard, so I can’t turn my letters around like the Russian alphabet which is used on the wrappers. With the stylized logos, some of the exact snack names were quite hard to decipher!
