Once again, our amazing Asian snack box from WorldWideTreats has plenty of great things, but not a lot from Japan in the specific mix we ended up with.
So, off to Google I went.
We found, and ordered, Tonosama Candy. Similar to WorldWideTreats, this pack of candy grouped together 30 different types of snacks. All of this pack were Japanese snacks.
Now, the pack says "candy", but it's really a mix of candies and chip-like snacks. Specifically, I was aiming to get some umaibo sticks. Saying "sticks" after "umaibo" may be redundant, I'm really not sure. Umaibo means "delicious stick", and the stick is a puffed corn stick, like a cheese puff. Umaibos, though, come in many different flavors. Some flavors you'd expect, many you would not. Some of these latter types are odd and often somewhat disgusting. As with many snacks from around the world, I'm sure perception of good taste versus nasty taste is all in what you know. Japanese kids may thing Cheetos are terrible, who knows.
While many of the Japanese snacks were very different than snacks we were familiar with, only some were bad tasting according to those in my house. Most, though, were really good!
