World Culture Tour: Germany part 5 - Nutcracker Craft

For our Germany craft, we decided to make a Nutcracker since Nutcrackers originate from Germany. Originally, they were wooden figures created as a gift of good luck to decorate and protect your home. We made our Nutcrackers out of Popsicle sticks!

All you have to do is use 1 Popsicle stick as the body, then break a 2nd stick in 1/2 evenly to use as arms. We added a small piece of Popsicle stick as a cross beam on the back to use in gluing everything together. Then, once the body is made, the kids just go to town on coloring it in. Since Nutcrackers have become synonymous with Christmas, this would double as a good Christmas craft too. We're thinking of adding a loop on the back of these guys' heads to turn them into Christmas tree ornaments.
