World Culture Tour: Germany part 4 - Schnitzel

It's a hard choice to pick my favorite dish from Germany. The brats, potato salad, and rodgrod were all great. We stopped at a local place that makes pretzels fresh to watch them being made, rolled out and twisted. The spatzle from the previous post was REALLY good. However, I think schnitzel takes the win for the German food we've made.  German chocolate cake is still to come, as my birthday is tomorrow, and that's what my kids are going to make for me, so we'll see where that one lands.

schnitzel

Schnitzel Recipe Ingredients

  • Boneless pork loin chops (because we went with pork schnitzel instead of wiener schnitzel)

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup dried bread crumbs

  • 1 egg

  • 1/3 cup milk

  • 3 Tbsp oil

Directions 1. Use your salt to lightly salt both sides of your pork chops. 2. Lay out your bread crumbs and flour separately. 3. Mix the egg and the milk to make an egg wash. 4. Take your chops through your three stations: 1- roll them in the flour, 2- put them into the egg mix and flip them to cover both sides, and 3- press both sides of your chops into the crumbs to completely cover them.  5. Heat the oil in a frying pan, covering the bottom completely. 6. Cook the chops about 3 minutes per side so that the bread crumbs are golden brown.
