Time to learn a custom!
Tea time.
First of all, I'm sad to say that "Tea Time" wasn't on my original list for our England stop. This weekend, while on a cub scout trip, a friend of mine asked what we had left to do in England. When I said we hadn't done a custom yet...and mentioned what we were going to do (more on that later), he said, "what about tea time?"
I could've kicked myself. Of course we needed to do tea time!
So, a quick trip to the store today, and tea time it is.
A little research into "tea time." Tea time is what the working class of England calls the evening meal. The upper class calls this dinner (when being formal) or supper (when being informal).
"Afternoon tea" is what I would have thought of as tea time until reading about it all today. It's tea with a snack in the afternoon...
Then, there's "high tea." High tea is pretty much tea time. Same thing. Why a different name? Because afternoon tea can be done at a coffee table or the like. High tea\tea time is your evening meal, which is of course at a dinner table, and so is "higher" than a coffee table. Simple as that!
