OK. I'm sure some people like beef wellington. Likely, some even love it.
Not me.
I got the recipe from https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/beef_wellington/. I'm sure it's a wonderful recipe for beef wellington and certainly an accurate one. However, there seems to be something wrong, to me, with taking a perfectly good piece of steak and covering it in mustard as the first step of a recipe!
Then, make mushroom paste, smear that on ham and wrap the mustard covered steak with the mushroom covered ham... taste buds salivating yet?? You then wrap that concoction in pastry breading and bake it.
This was not a hit in our household. Unlike the shepherd's pie, Eli barely ate any of his. He flat out didn't like it. Luke, like me, thought it was "OK". Not great. So...basically a waste of steak then.
Where it DID win, though, is I think this is the most complicated recipe I've ever made. Definitely the most complicated recipe I've made with the boys. So, we had fun experimenting at least.
For our side item, we made green beans almondine, which is basically green beans with almond slivers cooked with them and lemon juice added in. Luckily, all my picky eaters liked this dish a lot better than the beef wellington.
