On this next stop of our World Culture Tour, we are now in merry ol' England!
We jumped into Rowan Atkinson movies to get the boys into our England stop on the world culture tour. Johnny English and Mr. Bean really made them laugh.
Kingsman, though a bit violent, is fun and generally comic book level violence. So, we jumped into the Taron Egerton series, and my boys loved it! Truly, these movies follow an old school James Bond template for the most part and do so in such a cool way. They are totally fun and adventurous. Whereas Daniel Craig's Bond movies follow the Bourne template of gritty realism, Kingsman brings back the fun Bond elements. You think Colin Firth can't pull off amazing action sequences? You'd be wrong! Just wait for the barroom scene if nothing else.
Then, there's the actual Bond.
So, if we're to delve through England's culture, following the stories of the country, the music, the food, crafts, and...movies... you kinda need to include James Bond, right? Everybody naturally thinks of England when they think of Bond, or possibly Russia. However, when you look through the Bond movie list, you'll be hard pressed to find many that take place for more than 5 minutes IN England. He's a globetrotter, all over the place. So, to some, the Bond movie I included in our England stop is likely blasphemy. Oh, I know people have grown to enjoy Lazenby over the years as a decent Bond, but the blasphemy portion would be that I'm including On Her Majesty's Secret Service as my boys' first ever Bond movie.
I know they should start with Connery, but he's in Russia, he's in Hong Kong, he's in the Bahamas. He isn't in England. So, as we go around the world, we'll get to Connery.
