World Culture Tour: Eastern Europe part 4 - A Snack Box

worldwide treats snacks

I've been hearing about snack boxes you could get from around the world, even subscriptions you could sign up for to have a box sent to you monthly. Each box would have a selection of candies and other snacks from different regions around the world.  The problem? You can't CHOOSE what region you get and when. So, while it seemed a perfect option for the "World Culture Tour" we're doing, it was no good if I couldn't pick the region my boys and I are in while we're in them. Then, it hit me. Amazon! I looked up snack boxes and came across World Wide Treats. They have snack boxes from any area you would want, and you can pick the set you want when you want it. We're in Eastern Europe, so we ordered European Snack Mix Package, which had more items from our current countries of interest rather the the Taste of East Europe Snack Mix, which focuses mostly on Russia and countries that used to be part of the USSR. The boxes are filled with 10+ items. Ours had 12. Items from Belgium, Serbia, Lithuania, Poland, Greece, Italy, and more.  Think KitKats, Reece's, and Doritos...that's what you'd get with an American box, sure. Toblerones come from Switzerland but have graduated to being available in most places. However, there are snacks you cannot find everywhere, special snacks that are only available in certain areas and, therefore, are special and unique.  (Some states have unique snacks too. Idaho, for example, has the Idaho "Spud" chocolate/coconut/marshmallow candy bar and Huckleberry Cordials. Even these can be ordered through Amazon...just not from World Wide Treats).  The full list of what we received in our European box is below:

  • Choco-freta by Ion - Greek chocolate wafer bar

  • Biscoff cookies by Lotus - Belgium

  • Sultan coconut macaroon - chocolate flavored coconut filled macaroon from Belgium

  • Nomeda  - Lithuanian chocolate covered wafer bar with apple and nuts inside. The bar tasted more like citrus and had a strong fruit flavor.

  • Sausuciai by salna - Lithuanian frost covered hard tiny bagels.

  • Plaisier by Lago - Italian chocolate-covered wafer bar with dark chocolate

  • Piselli Perugia Chocolate Croissant – an actual croissant filled with chocolate straight from Italy!

  • Kex choklad - Swedish chocolate-covered wafer bar

  • Stark Smoki - This Serbian snack is a peanut flavored puff snack…like a cheese puff but with peanut flavoring instead.

  • Euro Blokic - From Serbia, it's a milk chocolate and hazelnut-flavored chocolate bar.

  • White and Red Flag Caramel Heaven wafers - Polish wafer bars with caramel filling

  • Roshen BimBom - Hard candy from Ukraine

The end result? My boys loved it! They enjoyed trying items from around the world.
