World Culture Tour: Eastern Europe part 3 - Strudel

strudel

Eastern Europe has a lot of countries with some fairly diverse cultures. Luckily for us, those cultures translate into a lot of food choices. This week's food was strudel. While it was a great desert with pastry and apples, it was not universally loved in our house. Personally, I'm not sure what's wrong with these kids of mine, I thought the strudel tasted great! Ingredients

  • 1 Philo dough sheet

  • 2 peeled and cut granny smith apples

  • 1 grated granny smith apple

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 1 cup golden raisins

  • 1 egg

  • 1/4 cup milk

Directions

strudel cooking

  1. Peel and cut 2 granny smith apples and grate/shred a third.

  2. Add the brown sugar in with the raisins and stir in the apples.

  3. Spread your mixture on the philo dough.

  4. Roll the sheet and seal the philo dough together on the ends.

  5. Mix the egg and the milk together, then brush this mixture onto the dough.

  6. Bake in a 400 degree preheated oven for 30 minutes.
