Having left Greece, my boys' virtual journey through the world, learning culture and customs along the way, has them arriving in eastern Europe. For this stop, we'll include Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the countries that once made up Yugoslavia.
For our first entry into this mysterious, culturally rich area, we decided to dive into some Hungarian goulash!
Ingredients
3 large carrots (cut up)
1 large (chopped) green pepper
1 large (chopped) onion
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
2 pounds stew beef
32 oz beef broth
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1.5 teaspoon garlic powder
3 tablespoons paprika
1/4 cup flour
Pinch of sugar
1 cup sour cream
1 large pack of egg noodles
Directions
Combine the carrots, pepper, and onion into a slow cooker.
2. Brown the meat and drop it into the slow cooker with your veggies.
3. Pour the beef broth into a skillet and add in the flour, sugar, paprika, garlic, tomato paste, salt, and pepper. Cook this mixture for about two minutes at boiling so it can thicken up.
4. Pour your mixture over the ingredients in the slow cooker.
5. Cook all of this in the slow cooker on high for 3-4 hours.
6. Stir your sour cream into everything in the slow cooker.
7. Dip your slow cooked meal onto cooked noodles and serve.
