Time to get into the food portion of our Australian stop on the World Culture Tour 2018. We had Chiko....wait, what? We already got into Australian food because we posted about Vegemite?...True. Then, "Time to get into the GOOD food portion of our Australian stop on the World Culture Tour 2018". Better? OK. So, we had Chiko rolls the other night. Chiko rolls are basically Chinese spring rolls. The name "Chiko" appears to be a shortened version of "Chicken Rolls" which is what these were originally advertised as despite not having chicken in them. I'm guessing that was the reason for the title change. Tonight, we made Aussie Meat Pies. Chopped onion, mixed with browned ground beef or "Mince Meat". Add tomato sauce, worcester sauce, BBQ sauce, beef broth, cornflour, vegemite and bake them in shortcrust pastry dough (bottom) and puff pastry dough (top). Add cheese in if you'd like.
For desert, we made Pavlova, an Australian dessert with Kiwi fruit! The hardest part is when the recipe calls for stirring the bottom egg crust until it stiffens...but doesn't dry. I'm not completely sure what that means...but I stirred it until both my arms hurt...and it was still pretty liquidy. Of course, once it baked for an hour it set right up. So, I may have stirred unnecessarily too long... Recipe from https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/12126/easy-pavlova/
