Making our way through the movies in our Australia section of our World Culture Tour, we watched "Rabbit Proof Fence" (the most serious of the Australia bunch) back to back with Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman's movie, "Australia".
Both centered on the history of Australia and the Stolen Generations in which half aborigine and half white children were taken from their aboriginal families to be assimilated into the white population as servants. They were taken from their homes and put in church missions.
When I let my boys know that these were based on true stories, the boys freaked out, and they were on the edge of their seat whenever anything bad was happening, rooting for the kids.
