The song "Down Under" by Men at Work is almost synonymous with Australia.
And what do most people think of when they think of that song? "Vegemite Sandwich".
Vegemite is a food staple in Australia. I assumed it had something to do with vegetables...but it's a yeast extract. It's a black salty, smearable substance like peanut butter... if peanut butter tasted like rotten salt.
Didn't think salt could rot or spoil? Then YOU haven't tried Vegemite!
According to Hugh Jackman, the famous Australian actor, a little goes a long way. You're not supposed to slather Vegemite onto bread. You LIGHTLY smear it.
But, even then... meh.
