I love Q4Kidz, daily questions for children that are fun for the whole family to discuss.
I repost their questions on my social networking sites all the time because they really do lead to some fun AND interesting conversations with the kids. I mean, if you ask your child, “What do you think colors would taste like?”, you’re bound to get a better response than, “What did you do in school today?”
When we ask OUR twin boys (6) what they did in school today, we get some pretty lackluster responses. Mostly, we hear, “we don’t remember.” Or the now classic, “We can’t be remembering school stuff when we get home.” Now this answer, little did they know, DID reveal some of their schooling…as in GRAMMAR was not covered that day. To get better answers, we have to be sneakier and more detailed with our questions. “Did you have storytime?” Y/N “What story did the teacher read?” That sort of thing.
But, with Q4Kidz, the fun question of the day recently was, “which power would you choose between fire power and water power?”
Luke said, he’d choose “Blue fire.” He chose this because at some point we had the discussion of blue fire being the hottest fire. I said, “Bluefire doubles as a pretty cool superhero name as well!” He liked this idea.
So, on to Eli.
“Ok, Eli, fire or water power?”
Eli, “Acid.” Left field much? I told him that surely seemed more like a supervillain power. I can’t see a hero shooting acid at people. He was undeterred, saying that as long as he was shooting acid at VILLAINS, he’d still be a good guy.
I tried to convince him of the coolness of water power and the superhero name of “Streamline”. He didn’t go for it and the twins started discussing what this acid hero fella’s name might be.
After much discussion, they came up with “Aco” a shortened version of Acid that would be pronounced like “Asso”.
My wife buried her head in the seat of the car, laughing. I told them they’d have to come up with something else…
