First Derm: A Review

Kid getting a shot at the doctor's office
*First Published on FamiliesofMultiples.com
Have you ever noticed something on your kid and wondered what it is?

Is it a rash or jelly? Is it chocolate or poo?

It can be really hard to tell, and, personally, I’d advise against the taste test as an option. Just in case. When it gets really difficult, and possibly scary, is when you determine your little one does indeed have a rash. Then you have to figure out WHAT kind of rash it is. Rashes come in many shapes and forms. Some can cause itchiness, some pain. Any can be enough to freak a parent out if their little one is hurting or upset.

So, it’s best to stay informed.

One of our kids broke out in what looked like chicken pox. Naturally, we panicked a bit. Since we have twins, we worried that the one with the rash would infect the other and wondered about the logistics of quarantining. We scheduled the doctor’s appointment and waited nervously and fearfully, worried about our little guy.

When we got to the doctor the next day, we found out that he did not have chicken pox. Rather, he had Gianotti Crosti. What the heck is that? We didn’t know either. The doctor explained it’s rather rare and causes bumps on the legs, arms, and butt. It can last between 10 days and weeks! Luckily, though, it doesn’t hurt, doesn’t itch, and isn’t catching. It looked bad, but it wasn’t.

What if there was an app that helped you determine what type of rash someone has?
Whether it’s a harmless rash or a skin condition to be worried about?

First Derm has created just that.

First Derm Step 2

It's 4 simple steps

Using a smartphone, you can snap a pic of the affected area, and their database of over 300,000 skin conditions will help narrow down the most likely culprit. You can even use the app to get connected to dermatologist. Once you submit your picture, a dermatologist will get back with you within hours.

This is a great breakthrough for worried parents everywhere!

It can help give some peace of mind while waiting to speak to someone in an appointment.

The First Derm app isn’t just used to spot things on kids, though. Adults can use the app too. It can spot rashes, viruses, and even cancers. If you do have any worse case scenarios, the app is meant to help with early detection which can greatly help stopping those worse cases in their tracks.

Here’s hoping that, if you ever have to use the app, it gives you happy news!
