As the summer heat dies down and the cold from winter has yet to arrive, it is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy the moderate temperatures and all the fun that comes with Autumn. Just because the pools have closed up and the kids have returned to school doesn't mean family fun is over. There are plenty of fun Fall activities to get out and enjoy.

Leaf Viewing

With Fall comes the changing of the leaves. On their way from green to brown, you'll see some of the brightest colors. Orange, yellow, red. Even better, the best places to see them are generally in the country. So seeing the leaves change means taking a fun road trip! While on your road trip, look for the bounties of Autumn on the sides of the road as places will be selling fruit jams and jellies, pumpkins, and apples.

Football

One of our favorite Fall activities! Whether you're going to a game, watching one on TV, or throwing around the pigskin with the family in the backyard, fall = football. It's great to take your kids to their first game...as long as they can sit through three hours without getting bored! The fun doesn't stop there. Football is also time for tailgating. So, get your chips, wings, and start your slow cooker because it's time for some football!

Corn Mazes

As the weather cools off and gets close to Halloween, corn mazes pop up all over. Depending on the corn maze, clues are given to help find your way, otherwise, follow the Greek myth of the Minotaur by holding your right hand to the wall to get through it. Aside from the main draw of the maze, many corn mazes include other fun activities for the family like bouncy houses, playgrounds, corn pits, and photo opportunities.

Festivals

Fall festivals are all over the place (well...during Fall of course). Apple festivals, pumpkin festivals, art festivals, you name it. Typically, these festivals have fun activities like crafts and art for sale, fresh fruit and vegetable stands, live music, and plenty of kid activities like bouncy houses, and face painting and crafts. Some even have amusement park rides. Treat the family to some apple cider to really get you in the mood!

Fair

When I think of Fall, It's the Fair that comes to mind. Every fall a County fair comes nearby to pretty much everyone. Rides. Activities. Shows. Petting zoos. Farm animal displays. Giant homegrown pumpkins! There's something for everyone. How about Fair food? Ribbon fries, corn dogs, elephant ears, and cotton candy are all waiting for you. Grab me a candy apple, and meet me at the grandstand for the tractor pull!

Haunted Activites

Many haunted activities like haunted houses or trails are not for the faint of heart. But when you and your spouse feel your kids are old enough, they can really be a lot fun. Sometimes, there's nothing more exhilarating and often hilarious as being chased by monsters! Remember the rules: Go as a group, wear bright colors, stick together, and never ever reach out and touch the actors trying to scare you.
