This weekend we went to Charlotte's "The Discovery Place." This is a science museum for the young and young at heart that teaches everything from electricity to pulleys to tricks of the eye to animals...and on and on and on. And, this particular one also has an IMAX theater, or as my son Luke calls it, "the theater that goes all around you." There's really a lot to do in these places! We did a whole day and were exhausted by the end of it. We decided to hit as many of the educational shows while there as well, so we got to see about rainforest animals, watch things explode and catch fire when learning about fire in the "Fire it Up!" show, then reverse that by learning about extreme cold with liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen in the "Sub-Zero" show. In both the fire and the freezing shows, they teach safety and the concepts of fire and freezing as well as solids, liquids, and gases...and then they blow stuff up just to make sure you're paying attention! It was a lot of fun. The same teacher that taught Sub-Zero was also doing magic acts while not doing shows. And, as he kept pointing out, it's not magic, it's science! Needless to say, all the kids, including mine, were amazed. And, their eyes kept bulging out at all the new mind-blowing experiences.
