August 21, 2017, the total solar eclipse of 2017! First one in 30 years. We drove about 2 hours to be in the center of the path so that we could get the most time to see the full eclipse. Darkness fell, complete and utter silence kicked in immediately as the animals went quiet. It was really a unique experience that doesn't come very often.
We tried to find a point in the path that was a little off the beaten path. In our area, people were flocking to I85 and I77. I envisioned these expressways being gridlocked...and turns out, I was right. Luckily, our spot only required back roads. Of course we weren't the only people following this path, but we ran into no traffic on the way down and only got stuck in one town on the way back. All in all, a good experience that the boys should remember.
