Avengers: End Game - A Spoiler-Free Movie Review

Updated: Sep 26, 2020

Avengers End Game characters

5 out of 5! Avengers: End Game is simply amazing. If you like fun, edge of your seat, nail-biting action, it’d be impossible not to love this movie!

I’ll admit to being a little biased since I collected comics for many years starting at the age of 12, but…wow. What does that tell you, though? The movie is great and will satisfy long-time comics fans as well as long-time MCU fans.

You don’t have to be a fan of comics to enjoy it. End Game is just a great movie, plain and simple. It’s big and fun, like a blockbuster should be. The Russo brothers really know how to make a movie.

End Game is action packed with surprises and epic character entrances. The previews let you know there’s a time jump between Infinity War and End Game, so no spoilers there. After that time jump, though, not everyone is unchanged. Some have to be sought out to get the team back together. Some moments are tense, some flat out hilarious.

The Russos handle every character, Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and so on, so perfectly, it is almost reverent! Whoever your favorite characters are, you will not be disappointed.

I mentioned hilarity. Even with the darkness that Thanos’ snap at the end of Infinity War obviously put onto the world, there’s still plenty of the MCU’s signature humor to go around. Possibly the best line is “Back to the Future is full of $#!t”. Perfect humor for that moment of the movie. Thanks, Paul Rudd. There were a ton of funny lines, though. Rudd scored another hysterical line when making a certain description of Cap…just wait till you hear it!

Now, speaking of that darkness? There are some utterly heart-wrenching scenes. No, that’s no spoiler about the ending, the scenes happen throughout the movie. Actually, the very first scene of the entire movie may be the hardest to watch!

So, let’s sum that up.

Action? So, so much.

Humor? Check. Hilariously so.

Heart-wrenching drama? You’ll be gut punched and explaining tears away as “allergies”.

Satisfactory conclusion to 10 years-worth of Marvel movies? And then some!

However, the true end of Marvel’s Phase 3 is July’s Spiderman: Far From Home. That’s just in name, though, because End Game really wrapped everything up. There were cameos of the extended cast from Cap 1 & 2, Thor 2, Avengers 1, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Iron Man 3. There’s one moment when you will ask yourself, “who’s that guy?” It’s the kid from Iron Man 3. How cool is that? No one was forgotten. Altogether, it results in such a great nod and blend of all things MCU into one extremely fun package.

The future of the MCU is supposed to be different than what we’re used to, according to Kevin Feige of Marvel. Supposedly, there aren’t really going to be “phases” exactly. Regardless of how it is done, the greatness and success of the MCU, so far, ensures it’ll continue.

I know Star Wars is back, but the MCU is truly the Star Wars of this generation:

Epic. Fun. Edge of your seat. All around, a blast to watch. An awe and intensity that will leave you speechless and aching to talk endlessly about every eye-popping scene you just saw. The series that connects us all, regardless of age or background.

End Game is everything you would expect from an epic blockbuster with 0% let down.

“Whatever it takes.”

I’d say End Game succeeded.
