Wood Crafts
Bird Houses
Bird Houses are fun to make, and then you get to watch and enjoy the birds using them.
Pinewood Derby Cars
Cub Scouts and Awana both do Pinewood Derby races. Granted, some of the parents take these races extremely seriously, doing most of the work for the kids. However, the kids should be involved! Whether they win the race or not, they'll have fun making the car. We usually aim for design prizes anyway and have made the Batmobile, Marty McFly's time traveling DeLorean, Ghostbusters' Ecto-1, a Flash car, and a Spider-Mobile.
Popsicle Eiffel Tower
Cut 3 squares of Styrofoam, each smaller than the last. Use Popsicle sticks to make the legs of the Eiffel Tower, connecting each square of the Styrofoam. Then, use 2 more Popsicle sticks for the top of the tower on the top of the 3rd square.
You'll need to glue everything in place as you go.
For added detail, and to make your craft look a bit more like the real thing, glue toothpicks in crisscross patterns between your Popsicle sticks to look like the lattice work up and down the real thing.
Popsicle Nutcrackers
All you have to do is use 1 Popsicle stick as the body, then break a 2nd stick in 1/2 evenly to use as arms. We added a small piece of Popsicle stick as a cross beam on the back to use in gluing everything together. Then, once the body is made, the kids just go to town on coloring it in.
Since Nutcrackers have become synonymous with Christmas, this would double as a good Christmas craft too. We're thinking of adding a loop on the back of these guys' heads to turn them into Christmas tree ornaments.
