Best Movies to Watch in the Spring

Spring is a time for rebirth and renewal as the Earth moves out of the cold and dreary Winter back into budding life. Crops return. Warmth returns. Also, since people start getting back out of their in-home hibernations, fun returns!

These movies all contain elements of all that Spring stands for. Since Spring is also known for rain, you can't be outside all the time. So, when rain forces you back inside, continue your Spring rebirth by watching some fun movies.

Bambi

Little Bambi is born in the Spring and, while investigating the newly blooming flowers, meets a young rabbit and skunk.  While the movie watches them all keep growing, this initial scene is one of the best representations of Spring ever to be in a movie.  Also, since all the main animals are little and cute at this point, it's the most adorable representation as well.

The next Spring gets funny, because when the blossoming season comes around again...and all the characters become "twitterpated"...

Bug's Life

A new take on the Ant and the Grasshopper story.  The grasshoppers don't gather food, just like the original story, but this time they have a reason.  They bully the ants into doing it for them!  Well, a little ant with a big heart, named Flik, decides to change the arrangement...

Secret Garden

A girl goes to live with her uncle after the death of her parents. Not ready for kids, he neglects her. So, she begins spending time on the grounds of her uncle's estate and fixing up an old flower garden she finds there. Getting a garden going is the epitome of Spring, but the movie is more than just a good Spring movie example. It's heartfelt and sweet. Now, what happens after she restores the garden? I can't say, it's a secret!

Tangled

This is the classic story of Rapunzel.  In this version, while she's trapped up in her tower with that famous long hair, she wishes to go out and see the world.  She really wants to find out the meaning behind the floating lanterns that get released every year on her birthday (which is assumed to be May 12th). When she gets out of the tower, hilarity and adventure ensue.

Mary Poppins

As the world's best babysitter ever arrives to take care of the Bank's children.  A colorful world (and often animated) opens up for the children as Mary begins teaching them life lessons like responsibility, how to have fun, and how to be a family.

Lorax

Dr. Seuss delivers a story with a good message with this movie.  The message is that if humans don't take care of the Earth, they will eventually ruin it.  Instead, we should take care of the Earth and be good stewards of it so that it survives for generations to come.

Bee Movie

Bee Movie has a good message, you don't have to be what everyone expects you to be.  You can be different, you can be yourself.  And...things get pretty interesting when the main bee (voiced by Jerry Seinfeld) decides to sue humans for eating honey!

Field of Dreams

As springtime hits, a farmer starts hearing voices telling him to build a baseball field.  "If you build it, he will come".  By the time the corn is full-grown and the field is built, some very interesting things start happening.

Plus, with Spring comes Spring training, and Field of Dreams is pretty much the best baseball movie ever.

Bridge to Terabithia

Two children create an imaginary world off in the woods which they dub "Terabithia". Their imaginations are so great that the imaginary world seems to come alive with lush greenery, animals. and even fantastic creatures.

Big Fish

This movie is Tim Burton's wild imagination at its best.  The scenery is all very bright and flower-filled, so it's perfect for Spring.  Plus, as the main character attempts to discover whether all of this father's tall tales were real or not, he instead discovers the benefit imagination has in life.
