Here's another Paul Bunyan statue for the ever growing Griswold oddity search. At Itasca State Park, you can see the Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox statue, beautiful scenery, and the starting point of the Mississippi river! These statues are the 2nd most photographed statues in America, behind only Mt. Rushmore.

Mall of America is the biggest mall in the US. Besides MASSIVE amounts of shopping, it is also the home of the Nickelodeon Universe theme park, Sea Life Aquarium, Barbie Dreamhouse Experience, Star Trek exhibition, a comedy club, and countless restaurants and bars. Your kids will love the Nickelodeon Universe rides, they're all based on the Nick cartoon characters, like SpongeBob, Wonder Pets, TMNT, Danny Phantom, Diego, Dora, and more.

Boundary Waters

This is a vast wilderness area in northern Minnesota up to the Ontario Canada border. It's famous for having over 1000 small to medium size lakes and goes from Ely to Grand Marais. Speaking of lakes, there's not just the small to medium ones...there's a GREAT one, this area is right at Lake Superior. With all that water, there's plenty to do in the area like canoeing, hiking, fishing, hunting, kayaking, swimming, horseback riding, and in the winter you can ice fish, dog sled, snow mobile, snow shoe hike, cross country skiing, and you can see animals like wolves, moose, bear, deer, bobcats, and more.

In Grand Marais, make your way to the scenic Gunflint Trail, filled with natural beauty and many lodges to choose from. We stayed at the Gunflint Lodge. Gunflint Lodge is the oldest, best known lodge on the Gunflint Trail and is right beside Gunflint Lake and the Canadian border at Ontario. They offer dog sledding, fun wilderness survival classes, dream catcher making, an onsite restaurant at the lodge. The place feels like summer camp. You stay in the cabins and walk to the lodge for meals and to interact with others. Deer are all over the place, they even walk up to you and eat corn (given out at the lodge) out of your hand! At the right time of the year, you can see the Aurora Borealis from here. We weren't lucky enough to see that or a moose, but we did see a wolf cross the trail in front of us while snowmobiling. Plus the cabins have hot tubs and fireplaces, it's very relaxing.
