Things to do in Alabama

*To see Alabama's top yearly events, click here.*

Alabama is rich in history, from the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement. So, a lot of historical sites can be seen like Fort Morgan and Fort Gaines, near the coast, to Birmingham's Civil Rights Institute.

Birmingham

As stated above, Birmingham has the Civil Rights Institute. This institute is both a museum showing the struggles of the Civil Rights movement and a research center focusing on continually improving civil rights in today's world. As a great symbol of the Civil Rights movement, they also have the statue of Martin Luther King, Jr. pictured below.

Aside from history, Alabama's a good place to see the "future" too! They have the US Space and Rocket Center, which showcases rockets, achievements, and artifacts of the U.S. space program. Plus, you can sign up for SPACE CAMP!

Alabama is also home to one of the great yearly multistage concerts, Bayfest or more recently retitled, Ten Sixty-Five. Every year, they pull in big name musicians of multiple genres and have a weekend closed off street festival. As this is Alabama's biggest yearly concert, there are a lot of activities and food vendors and a lot of fun.
